National Day of Prayer Scriptures

National Day of Prayer Scriptures

We set aside the first Thursday of the month of May as a National Day of Prayer—to specifically pray for the leaders in our cities, our nation, and our world. 1 Timothy 2:2 urges us to pray “for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.”

Dr. David Jeremiah said in a statement to CBN News: “Our world is facing unprecedented uncertainty. Health, finances, politics—every aspect of life seems to be hanging in the balance. Yet there is one source of true hope and healing, and that is Almighty God. He has promised, ‘If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.’”

Our world is hurting and in need of prayer—not just on the National Day of Prayer, but every day of the year. In 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18, Paul reminds us to “pray without ceasing … for this is the will of God.” Pray for those who are struggling and suffering in dire circumstances. Pray for ones who have dedicated their lives to serve those in need. And pray that God will use each of us to provide comfort and answer their cries for help.

God is faithful. “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us” (1 John 5:14).

And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
