We hear about love most often around Valentineโs Day. Candy and flowers fill the store shelves, and bright red paper hearts hang from the windows of shops and businesses. February is even known as the month of love.
While showing our love for our friends and family is important, Godโs love is often overlooked at this time of year. Yet, He gave us the perfect expression of loveโHe sent His Son, Jesus, to make the ultimate sacrifice for us. โFor God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal lifeโ (John 3:16).
That sacrificial love shows us how we should, in turn, love one anotherโon Valentineโs Day and throughout the rest of the year. โWe love because he first loved usโ (1 John 1:19).

Sometimes, holidays like Valentineโs Day are difficult for those who have lost a loved one or havenโt found the one to share their lives with. We feel lonely or maybe forgotten. But Godโs love can fill that void.
The Scriptures are full of declarations of Godโs love for us. โFor the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removedโ (Isaiah 54:10).
He is with us. His love and peace will not leave us. โThe steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulnessโ (Lamentations 3:22-23).
When we spend time and meditate on Godโs word, His promises fill us with hope and gives us the strength to get through difficult times. โIn all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved usโ (Romans 8:37). And that strength empowers us to go out and share that love with others and give them the hope that we have found in Christ. โLove bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all thingsโ (1 Corinthians 13:7).
That is a love that stays with us forever.
