After more than a dozen tornadoes struck Mississippi on May 6, at least 17 people were injured and hundreds of homes were damaged or destroyed. In Lamar County alone, over 270 homes and 50 apartment units were impacted, leaving many families without shelter. Operation Blessing is en route to assess needs and provide help and hope to survivors in crisis.

Mississippi Tornadoes

A severe outbreak of 14 tornadoes tore through Central and Western Mississippi on May 6, leaving widespread destruction across multiple communities. Hundreds of homes were damagedand debris and uprooted trees continue to block roadways. First responders worked through the night to rescue individuals trapped in damaged homes and rubble as official damage assessments began. Early reports from Purvis, Mississippi indicate that more than 270 homes and multiple apartment complexes sustained damage or were destroyed, with over 30 roadways closed.

In response, Operation Blessing’s Global Disaster Response team has activated and is coordinating with trusted partners across the impacted regions to assess needs, identify critical service gaps, and avoid duplication of efforts. Team members are mobilizing with essential equipment and supplies and will pre-stage in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to prepare for rapid deployment as needs are confirmed.
