Serving Families After a Powerful Earthquake Shakes the Philippines

Jun 15, 2026

PHILIPPINES – In the aftermath of a devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake, families across parts of the southern Philippines are facing tremendous challenges. After an earthquake of this magnitude shakes the Philippines, damaged roads, disrupted services, and dangerous conditions have left many communities struggling to access basic necessities as they begin the difficult process of recovery. As roads slowly started to clear in Glan, Sarangani Province, Operation Blessing teams moved quickly to reach families affected by the disaster.

Relief Reaches Isolated Communities

On June 13, Operation Blessing began bringing help and hope to residents in Kapatan, Glan. Many families were still reeling from the impact of the earthquake and the destruction it left behind.

To help meet urgent needs, Operation Blessing distributed food and hygiene packs, solar lights, mats and blankets, and emergency tents to affected families.

As teams traveled through the area, they witnessed the staggering power of the earthquake firsthand. One community had been swallowed by massive cracks in the earth, leaving visible reminders of the destruction residents endured.

For many families, recovery is only beginning.

Clean Water for Families in Need

Providing clean water to earthquake victims

Two days later, Operation Blessing continued serving earthquake survivors in nearby communities.

The team traveled to a Tribal Village in Barangay Bawing, General Santos City, where residents were facing another serious challenge. Because of the earthquake, the community’s water supply had been cut off. Some local water sources had also become filled with sediment, making the water unsafe to drink.

Without reliable access to clean water, daily life became even more difficult for families already coping with the effects of the disaster.

Operation Blessing responded by providing 50 jerry cans of clean water to help meet the community’s immediate needs. The water was sourced from a mobile water filtration system stationed at the barangay hall, ensuring families had access to safe drinking water during this critical time.
