VENEZUELA- For Marley, starting over meant rebuilding her life almost from zero. After her apartment in Caracas was declared uninhabitable, she found herself living in a tent camp, waiting to learn what would happen next. Yet even in the uncertainty, Marley held on to gratitude—and a dream for her future.
From Beneficiary to Volunteer
Operation Blessing staff first met Marley at the camp, where she was waiting for answers about her home. Since then, she has become a familiar and beloved face to the team. Marley began volunteering with Operation Blessing, forming strong bonds with the staff and showing her gratitude through her willingness to serve others.
A hard worker, Marley was determined to rebuild her life. Friends helped by providing appliances and basic necessities, but she still needed a way to earn an income and support herself.
Then Operation Blessing began planning something that could help her do exactly that: a microenterprise project to launch her own food business.
A Dream Rebuilt in Venezuela Begins to Take Shape
Marley dreamed of selling arepas and cachapas, two traditional Venezuelan foods she hoped would provide a source of income as she rebuilt her life.
The food cart was delayed several days because of difficulties with a provider, but Marley refused to let the setback discourage her.
“God is in control and He knows best. It’ll be ready in the right time,” she said.
Finally, the day arrived.
Operation Blessing delivered a branded food cart along with ingredients, cooking supplies, a refrigerator, drinks, a standing menu, a table, plastic stools, a tent, and other essentials to help Marley get her business started.
She named her new business El Sabor de la Bendición, meaning “The Taste of the Blessing.”
More Than a Food Cart
For Marley, the delivery represented far more than a new business. It represented an opportunity to work, provide for herself, and begin dreaming again after losing her home.
Marley often cries when she talks about her food cart and the future she hopes to build through her business. As she stood surrounded by the supplies that would help make her dream possible, this day was no different. Tears of happiness filled her eyes.
Before the team prayed for God to continue blessing her and her new business, Marley had one request: that her gratitude be shared with everyone who helped make this moment possible.
