JAMAICA – The destruction left by Hurricane Melissa has slammed communities across Jamaica with a force unlike anything they’ve ever seen. Homes are gone, livelihoods are shattered, and access to the most basic necessities is non-existent—yet hope is rising in the midst of this devastation. Operation Blessing’s disaster response is bringing hope to Jamaica through critical relief and the message of God’s love to those most affected.
In the critical first days after the storm, essentials like clean water, food, and medical care were nearly impossible to find. Roads were blocked, entire neighborhoods were leveled, and families struggled simply to survive. Operation Blessing’s disaster relief for Hurricane Melissa has become a lifeline for these hard-hit communities—mobilizing volunteers from around the world and sending them directly to the areas of greatest need.
A Call to Serve: One Volunteer’s Story
For Kadine, the call to serve came unexpectedly. When a neighbor from Trumpet Call Ministries extended an invitation to help, she never imagined the heartbreak she would witness. “I started with my neighbor… and I just signed up and started with Operation Blessing,” Kadine shares.
What she saw was devastating: “People here are without running water, they are without houses, no roof, no bed to sleep on, no nothings. They are just homeless.” This stark reality—families living in mud and water, homes completely destroyed—moved Kadine to tears. “It just moved me, tears just come to my eyes because they have nowhere to stay.”
This is the reality facing countless Jamaicans in desperate need, and dedicated volunteers like Kadine are answering the call, bringing hope to Jamaica through acts of compassion and service.
Cooking as a Lifeline in Montego Bay

Every day, dedicated teams work tirelessly to get food to as many people as possible across Jamaica. At Operation Blessing’s command post, the cooking operation has become a crucial lifeline. “We are trying to get the food out to all the people who are in need because, they really need it,” Kadine explains. “So we’re just trying our best daily to get as much food out for them to eat.”
The job of providing hot, comforting meals is essential in this moment. “This job of cooking is very important in this moment because there are so many people without food and we have to do what we have to do to get food to as much people across Jamaica as we can.” The relief and gratitude in people’s eyes, and the knowledge that they’re making a real difference, is what keeps these volunteers going despite the overwhelming need. They are delivering hope to those who need it most.
For the community of Montego Bay and beyond, Operation Blessing has become a beacon of light in this crisis, providing essential relief when it matters most. Kadine sums up the sentiment: “Operation Blessing is amazing, they are like the best thing right now in Montego Bay—bringing hope to Jamaica and help to the people who need it most.”
