We Need You!
Disaster Response
Hurricane Melissa has devastated Jamaica. The Category 5 storm—the strongest Atlantic landfall in nearly a century—tore through the island with 180 mph winds, catastrophic flooding, and landslides. Now, as communications remain down and much of the country sits without power, Operation Blessing is on the ground NOW, providing life-saving emergency relief to Hurricane Melissa survivors. Your prayers and support make this possible. Please pray for the people of Jamaica and our team to help bring food, clean water, and hope in Jesus’ name to families in crisis.
The Impact of Hurricane Melissa
Hurricane Melissa made landfall Tuesday Oct. 28th, as a Category 5 storm, tying the record for the strongest Atlantic basin landfall in nearly 100 years. Winds topping 180 mph tore through Jamaica, leaving widespread destruction, flooding, and landslides. Reports show that roughly 75% of the island lost power, homes have been damaged or destroyed, and communications remain largely down.
Hurricane Melissa
There have been roughly 67 deaths reported, however with most of the country without power and electricity, the exact death toll and injuries are not solidified and are expected to go up. Roughly $4 billion in insured losses to infrastructure have been reported. Â
Operation Blessing’s Global Disaster Response team is on the ground NOW in Jamaica providing comprehensive disaster response. Miraculously within 24 hours we have established our base of Operations and have already begun distributing solar lights.Â
We are now coordinating our relief efforts in Montego Bay and are:Â Â
- Installing a clean water system to restore safe drinking water access.Â
- Expanding the church kitchen and developing a scalable feeding program for the community.Â
- Conducting medical relief operations for those in need of care.Â
- Securing a warehouse space to manage relief goods and logistics.Â
- Engaging local volunteers and partners to strengthen capacity and outreach.Â
But we can’t do this important work without you. Please keep Hurricane Melissa survivors and our team in your prayers. And, if you feel led, please give to provide lifesaving disaster response.Â
Please join us in prayer for the people of Jamaica and for all in the storm’s path. If you’re able, give today to help Operation Blessing bring swift, life-changing aid for those going through their darkest hours due to disaster.Â
