MEXICO- When Hurricane Eric slammed into Teresa’s small community in Mexico, her family feared they might not survive the night. The powerful Category 4 storm tore through El Ranchito with violent wind and rain, ripping metal sheets from rooftops and destroying homes throughout the community. As the storm grew stronger, Teresa and her family huddled together inside their home, praying for protection.

Then the roof was torn away. With rain pouring into the house, Teresa’s 10-year-old son, Elias, was terrified. “I was scared that a branch or a sheet might fly in and hurt us,” Elias shared. “When the rain comes in, we don’t have anywhere to hide.” After the storm finally passed, families across the community were left devastated. Teresa and her family tried to rebuild, but they didn’t have enough materials to repair the damage Hurricane Eric had caused.
