As the Operation Blessing disaster relief team arrived on the scene, we were met with a sobering sight. Haley Henson, a disaster team member, described the situation. “There are tents that I’m surrounded by, and all of the people staying right here lived on the Swannanoa River. Their homes were washed away in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.”
The immediate needs of these homeless Hurricane Helene survivors were basic but crucial. While food and water had been secured, the uncertainty of their situation loomed large.
