Operation Blessing Rushes Relief to Families Facing Devastation
MISSISSIPPI – In the aftermath of a devastating outbreak of tornadoes that tore through Mississippi Wednesday night, families across the state are facing overwhelming loss. Hundreds of homes were damaged, communities were left reeling, and many residents are now struggling to recover from the destruction left behind.
But even in the midst of heartbreak, hope is rising for tornado survivors in Mississippi.
Operation Blessing’s Global Disaster Response team quickly deployed to the disaster zone, arriving to assess damage and begin coordinating relief efforts with partners across the impacted region. Additional team members mobilized from Virginia Beach and other locations, bringing critical equipment and supplies to serve hurting families.
Among the resources sent were a mobile kitchen capable of preparing hundreds of hot meals each day, a construction trailer, and a box truck filled with relief supplies—including dozens of disaster clean-up kits assembled and donated by longtime partner The Home Depot Foundation.

Bringing Comfort in a Difficult Time
Operation Blessing established a base of operations at The Home Depot Store #2905 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where relief efforts immediately began taking shape.
From May 9–11, the team launched mobile kitchen operations, serving hot meals both on-site and through deliveries to areas of greatest need. Over the weekend alone, Operation Blessing served 297 meals to survivors and volunteers. Teams also distributed hygiene kits and bottled water while continuing to work alongside a local business coalition to support recovery efforts throughout the region.

For many survivors, these simple acts of kindness have become reminders that they are not alone.
As additional storms moved through central and western Mississippi, Operation Blessing team members witnessed remarkable resilience from the communities they were serving. Neighbors stepped in to help neighbors. Local businesses opened their doors to support recovery crews. And families facing unimaginable hardship continued pressing forward together.
One story especially encouraged the team. A local restaurant owner opened her parking lot to linemen arriving to restore power after the storms. She also prepared warm meals for them as they worked tirelessly to help the community recover.
Moments like these are powerful reminders that compassion shines brightest in life’s darkest seasons.
