MEXICO — In the quiet hills of Cintalapa, Mexico, María and her husband, Ramiro, spent their days working hard, caring for their family, and praying for strength. Then both noticed their sight beginning to fade.
The Burden of Vision Loss
For 79-year-old María, what began with cloudiness in her right eye soon worsened. She could no longer thread a needle or sort the beans she cooked daily. Even the sun became painful. Heartbreak set in as the faces she loved most began to blur. “I confused my family’s faces,” María said sadly.
Eighty-five-year-old Ramiro, a lifelong farmer of corn and beans, tried to ignore his blurring vision, but the fields he once knew so well became hazardous. He began to stumble on the well-worn paths, and worry set in. “I’ve even injured myself with work tools because I can’t see well,” Ramiro said with concern.

Overcoming Obstacles to Care
The couple’s adult children did all they could, but finding affordable cataract surgery in Mexico was an impossible hurdle. Their daughter Ana María said, “I wish I could help my parents; they’ve always taken care of my nine siblings and me.” Having no other option, Ramiro and María watched life through a growing blur, praying for help they could not afford.

Life-Changing Surgery Restores Hope
Then friends like you stepped in. Through our Life-Changing Surgeries program, María and Ramiro received cataract surgery in Mexico, and with restored vision came restored joy.
Once more, María could cook confidently and sew without pain, and Ramiro returned to his beloved fields without fear. Best of all, they could see their grandchildren’s faces—and look upon the bright eyes and wide smiles that were clear once more. Music swelled as Ramiro picked up the guitar and began teaching his grandson again.
When our Operation Blessing team visited them after their recovery, the family gathered to celebrate the miracle of cataract surgery in Mexico and what God had done through your kindness. There were tears and laughter as parents, children, and grandchildren rejoiced in the gift of sight restored.
Because of friends like you, María and Ramiro are reading their Bible again and enjoying the simple beauty of life together. Your love traveled across borders and reached a humble home in Cintalapa, bringing healing, help, and hope.
