“Our Shop Is Gone”: Operation Blessing Brings Help to Families in Nepal

NEPAL — Families in Nepal are facing the heartbreaking aftermath of devastating flash floods that swept through their communities, destroying homes, businesses and many of the everyday necessities people depend on. For families already struggling to recover, the days since the flooding have brought uncertainty, loss and urgent needs for food and essential supplies.

For Rashila and Tara, the danger came with little warning. “We had no idea the flood was so huge,” Rashila said. “We were just having normal conversation.” Then Tara heard the river roaring nearby. “It sounded like a bomb had exploded,” she recalled, describing the terrifying sound as the floodwaters surged through the area.

Families Left With Almost Nothing

The flooding has left families facing the heartbreaking reality of losing the things they worked hard to build. Tara’s shop was destroyed, while many families in the region were left without food and essential daily supplies. Yet even after losing so much, Tara found comfort in what remained: “Our shop is gone, everything is gone. But our family is together. That’s what matters.”

The challenges have continued long after the floodwaters receded. Rashila shared that her community had already gone seven or eight days without electricity, and her family had gone to another location simply to charge their devices. It was during that time that Operation Blessing’s team arrived, bringing practical assistance to families struggling to meet their most basic needs.

Nirupam, Senior Operations Manager with CBN India, witnessed the impact of the disaster firsthand. “We are very sad to see how the floods have affected uh people living in this region and uh how they have lost everything,” he said, explaining that many families had no food or essential daily necessities to care for themselves.

Operation Blessing is responding by providing nutrition and practical support, including fodder, fruits and milk on a daily basis. Through this assistance, the team is helping families sustain themselves as they begin the difficult process of recovering from the devastating floods.

For Rashila, the supplies may have looked simple, but they addressed real needs in her family’s daily life. “And the supplies you brought us, even if they may look small, are things we truly need,” she said. “They are very useful basics, things we need for everyday use.”

Tara also expressed her gratitude for the support that arrived during such a difficult season. “During such a difficult time, you came and helped us so much,” she said. “This support has made our daily life easier. It makes me very happy.” For families who have lost so much, this practical care is also a reminder that they are not forgotten.
