The Gift of Clean Water Brings Comfort and Joy to Families in Peru

Dec 22, 2025

PERU – Young Anbil (age 7) woke from her sleep burning up with fever. Sharp pains tore through her stomach, and she began vomiting. She needed medical attention. But in the middle of the night, no public transportation was available from their community of Kaquingora to the nearest hospital in Puno, Peru, nearly an hour away. Stories like hers reveal why the gift of clean water is so critical for vulnerable families.

Her mother, Nieves, panicked. What would happen to her little girl? She feared the worst but already suspected the cause. The small river that ran through the middle of their village and provided their drinking water wasn’t clean. Anbil and her older brother frequently got sick. During the dry season, when levels were lower, the water became muddier and even more contaminated. Although Nieves searched for natural pools along the river, the water they brought home wasn’t any better.

When Contaminated Water Threatens a Child’s Life

That terrifying night, local police took Nieves and Anbil to the hospital, where Anbil got the medicine she needed. But without help, Nieve knew it would happen again. Next time, the outcome might have been very different—but caring friends like you intervened. Water is a daily necessity for Anbil’s family. They need it not only for drinking, cooking, and cleaning, but also to grow food and care for their animals. The lack of running water also meant they had no sanitary bathroom facilities, forcing Anbil and her brother to walk up into the hills to relieve themselves. Your support made the gift of clean water a reality for this struggling community.

Our generous partners could not ignore such need and brought this struggling family—and their entire community—comfort and joy! The new clean water system you helped provide pumps filtered water to a faucet outside their home. And there’s more—sanitary bathrooms, equipped with a sink and toilet, so little Anbil no longer has to search for a private place in the hills. This gift of clean water not only protects their health—it restores dignity and transforms daily life.

Operation Blessing

Your love and care restored their dignity. Nieves is so grateful for all you have done. “Water has arrived at our home,” she told us. “My children will no longer get sick. We will have a much better quality of life.”

The Gift of Clean Water Brings Hope to Kaquingora

You blessed this family in even more ways. Compassionate donors also gave Nieves a greenhouse, so that she can grow more fresh vegetables and improve their diets. Today, they are able to sell the extra produce for additional income. Your kindness also opened the door for them to experience God’s love and peace through our animated Bible series, Superbook.

That is the best Christmas present you could give Nieves and her family. Thank you for sending clean water and so much more to those in dire need!
