Chenyang has never had a clear view of his world. This sweet 4-year-old boy in China couldn’t even open his eyes when he was born. Today, his eyelids droop so severely, they block most of his vision, causing him to stumble and fall.
Chenyang has an infectious smile. He loves to sing and dance, but his eye condition continues to cause him difficulties on a daily basis. He can’t see the blackboard at school and often trips over objects when he walks. Plus, his inverted eyelashes constantly scratch against his cornea, irritating his eyes.
After Chenyang was born, his parents sought help for their baby boy. At the time, his doctors thought his condition would resolve on its own. When it didn’t, they said the only solution was surgery.
But Chenyang’s family is already struggling with several serious health conditions. His mother can’t work due to poor health, and his grandmother is receiving treatment for cancer. Chenyang’s father bears the weight as the sole provider for his family. He works hard at a cement plant to cover their medical expenses and put food on the table. They simply can’t afford another surgery.
