Income for Life. Impact for Eternity.

A great way to make a gift, Charitable Remainder Trusts (CRT) receive payments that may increase over time, and defer or eliminate gains tax. CRTs provide steady cash flow and can be more beneficial than keeping an asset or selling it outright.

There are 2 types:

  • The Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust (CRAT) distributes a fixed annuity amount to you each year. Additional contributions are not allowed.
  • The Charitable Remainder Unitrust (CRUT) distributes a fixed percentage to you based on the balance of the trust assets (revalued annually), and additional contributions can be made. If the value of the trust increases, so does your income and, ultimately, your charitable gift to Operation Blessing and Orphan’s Promise. If the trust value decreases, so does your income and Operation Blessing’s benefit from the trust.

How Does it Work?

  • You transfer cash or assets (like appreciated stock, real estate, or retirement accounts) into a trust
  • In the case of a trust funded with appreciated assets, the trust will then sell the assets tax-free
  • You (or someone you choose) receive income for life or up to 20 years
  • After that, the remaining funds support Operation Blessing and Orphan’s Promise

Key Features

Contributions to CRATs and CRUTs are an irrevocable transfer of cash or property. Both are required to distribute a portion of income or principal to either the donor or the beneficiary. At the end of the specified lifetime or term for the income interest, the remaining trust assets are distributed to one or more charitable remainder beneficiaries.

Benefits

  • Receive steady income for life or a set term
  • Get a charitable income tax deduction
  • Potentially reduce or avoid capital gains tax

Flexible Timing

You can choose to delay your income, take the tax deduction now and begin payments later, potentially increasing your future income.
